A historic resort outside Cranbrook where spacious rooms and evening calm carry a strong guest score.

By dusk the grounds felt like they had exhaled. Fairway greens cooled to blue-grey, the casino windows glowed like a lantern on the edge of the trees, and the mountain air sharpened just enough to make me slow my walk. Inside, the evening split into two moods: a soft hotel hush in the corridors, and a brighter hum where the games and dining kept company. I stood on the balcony with a jacket over my shoulders and thought — this is the version of the place travellers hope for when they leave the highway.

One honest annoyance, kept in proportion: golf-course food options felt thin while I was there, and drink service hours were shorter than a summer evening wanted. Shoulder season will do that. It niggled for a moment, then the casino kitchen rescued dinner with something proper, and the night recovered its sparkle.

First look from the road

Arrival is a little theatre of its own. You peel toward Mission Road, the building rising with that mission heritage silhouette — brick, height, a sense of stories layered into the walls — and the entrance catches you with space rather than lobby clutter. High ceilings, a quiet grandeur, and that first inhale of polished wood and cool air. I grinned like someone who had already decided the weekend would work.

What landed better than I expected was simply how quiet the room felt once the door shut. Spacious, balcony air, a bed that invited an early night even when the casino was still awake downstairs. Guests keep calling the rooms huge and comfortable; mine agreed without needing a sales pitch.

At the desk the next morning I asked for a quieter corridor tip for a friend travelling later — nothing complicated. The agent marked a wing on a printed map, circled the elevator, and added a handwritten note about morning light on that side. Tiny gesture. Perfect hospitality.

When to pick something else

A candid aside

  • You want a dense downtown hotel with endless late dining on every corner — this is a resort setting just outside Cranbrook.
  • You expect full golf-club restaurant hours in every season; some guests note thinner options in quieter months.
  • You need a pure city-break rhythm rather than a historic property with casino and course energy.

Score notes

Behind the score

4.3
Guest rating out of 5
1392 reviews

A 4.3 from more than a thousand guests usually means the stay lands as clearly above average — not flawless, but reliably strong. From the reviews we read, spaciousness, scenery, and friendly service lift the score; thinner seasonal food hours on the course side nudge it back from perfection. These bars are our editorial read of those themes, not the property’s own category scores.

Atmosphere

After dark

After dark the resort felt cupped by the hills. Path lights traced soft lines toward the entrance, the casino hummed like a distant party you could join or ignore, and my balcony held a pocket of cool air that smelled faintly of cut grass. I stayed out longer than I meant to, listening to nothing in particular — which, for a holiday night, was the whole point.

The guest verdict

★★★★☆
Rooms were a bit small for the price but overall quiet location. Disappointed that there was minimal food options at the golf course and the hours were limited for drinks due to shoulder season. Staff were friendly. Casino attached had great food options with great prices! Breakfast also had good selection and choices.

My first time here this week. I really like this hotel. The rooms are nice with a balcony and high ceilings. Super clean. Its very quiet with nice scenery just outside Cranbrook. Staff are helpful. There is a casino and a restaurant here as well. The restaurant makes a good burger. I would highly recommend staying here.

Room was huge. Staff is super friendly, and the property is so beautiful. If you ever get a chance to visit, take it. The Casino is lots of fun and the food is delicious. If I could give it a higher rating I would.

This was a real treat and a historical visit. The hotel is filled with rich history and very somber accounts. The rooms were spacious, quiet and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.
